Jamb registration date for 2020 has started, and Jamb has announced that students who wish to write Jamb 2020 UTME must first register NIN with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to enable them to obtain the National Identification Number (NIN).

This will become part of the Jamb 2020 document.

The National Identification Number (NIN) is essential. Apart from Jamb registration, you will need NIN for scholarships and prominent bank transactions.

How to Get your NIN for Jamb 2020 Registration

Jamb has made an adequate arrangement with the NIMC for prospective candidates to be registered at the Jamb approved CBT centers nationwide or with license agents across the country.

Needed documents for  NIN Registration

If you have any of the following materials, then you are good to go. These documents include;

1. Driver’s license

2. Voter’s card (Temporary or permanent)

3. Nigerian International passport

4. Certificate of Local Government Origin

5. Attestation letter  from the prominent ruler in your community

6.  Birth Certificate

7. Declaration of age

8. Attestation letter from a religious or traditional leader

9. NHIS Id- card

10. Government staff Id-card

11. Registered/recognized private organization staff Id-card

12. School Id-card

13. Tax clearance certificate

14. Valid immigration documents.

However, if you don’t have the above-listed documents, then getting a birth certificate or local government of origin certificate would be the best and easy option.

How to Get your NIN for Jamb 2020 Registration:

Follow the below procedures to do your registration

  • Visit any NIN accredited center with a supporting document (see documents) above.
  • An enrollment form will be issued out to you for filling a purpose
  • Your pre-filled information will be inputted into the NIMC software by the NIMC enrollment officer.
  • The enrollment officer will ask you to verify your information before processing
  • If the applicant is satisfied with his/her demographic information, the biometrics (ten fingerprints and facial image) of the applicant will be captured subsequently.
  • A National Identification Number (NIN) Slip is issued to you after processing.


The importance of doing your NIN Registration

Apart from Jamb 2020 registration, the NIN is set to be used for all transactions in Nigeria requiring identification verification. These include:

  • Jamb 2020 form registration
  • Participating in the National Health Insurance Scheme
  • Payment of taxes
  • Obtaining your National E-Id card
  • Traveling purposes (international passport application & acquisition)
  • transactions related to your contributory pension scheme
  • access to welfare and other relevant services from the Nigerian Government
  • deals with social security implications
  • land transactions subject to the Land Use Act
  • any other transactions NIMC may so prescribe and list in the Federal Government Gazette

Your NIN Number

Upon successful registration, you will be given a skip containing your National Identification Number. You can also check your NIN by sailing *346# on your mobile phone. The service costs N20

Note: After successful registration, you will be issued your 11 digits National Identification Number. This is what you need to register for Jamb 2020. Without NIN, you cannot register or sit for Jamb 2020 UTME.
